Letter Bomb Injures Two at IMF Office in Paris

One employee has been injured after a letter bomb exploded at IMF office in Paris. Paris Police chief Michel Cadot said that it is still unclear who has sent homemade explosive in regular mail to IMF office. The staff at IMF office evacuated the building and armed military officers were guarding the area.

In the recent days, IMF office had received threatening calls. A recent attempt to send letter bomb to German Finance Ministry by Greek anarchist group failed.

Police said that all the four floors of IMF building were searched. The same building houses the World Bank office for France.

IMG director Christine Lagarde issued a statement after the attack, “I condemn this cowardly act of violence and reaffirm the IMF's resolve to continue our work in line with our mandate”. Lagarde was going to Germany for a meeting when explosion occurred.

French President Francois Hollande has condemned the attack. Hollande said, “We are again confronted with an attack. There is no other word for it when you are confronted with a package bomb. We are trying to establish the causes of what happened as part of an international investigation.”

Paris is on high alert and security staff is keeping a strict watch on many regions across the city.
