Emmanuel Macron’s Campaign Receiving Strong Support from French Voters as Fillon Falters
Centrist candidate Emmanuel Macron has high chances of winning the first and second round of French presidential elections as per latest surveys. Two weeks back, Macron was lagging behind far-right candidate Marine Le Pen. With decline in support for Francois Fillon, Macron’s campaign is possibly benefitting.
As per latest Harris Interactive poll, Macron has support from 26 percent of French voters compared to 25 percent support for Marine Le Pen. The poll was conducted between March 21-22.
In a televised debate on Monday, Macron has emerged as a strong leader. Most polls conducted in the recent weeks suggest strong chances of Marcon winning the second round of election even if he loses to Le Pen in the first round.
Economists across the world are keeping a close watch on French elections as Le Pen has promised to take France out of European Union. French exit from European Union will have long term impact on economic and political scenario in France. Far-right voices have gained support in the recent months but their candidates are still lagging behind in most European countries.
Macron will possibly benefit from decline of Francois Fillon’s campaign after he was blamed for misuse of public funds. Fillon denied the charges but his support among French voters has declined after the scandal emerged.
