Trump, Flirtation, France's First Lady and Bastille Day All March On
Although First Lady Melania Trump didn't appear fazed by it, President Donald Trump's so-called flirtation with France's First Lady has been ruffling some feathers.
According to the U.K.Telegraph, Brigitte Trogneux, the wife of French president, Emmanuel Macron, appeared happy and smiling when Trump shook hands with her and remarked that she was in "such good shape, beautiful." Ms. Trogneux was wearing a white dress that hovered above her knees.
Mrs. Trump, wearing a red midi length suit, agreed politely, and Mr. Macron also smiled.
The moment that has captured the world's attention happened Thursday during a tour of the Hôtel National des Invalides. The location contains a museum complex in central Paris that is the resting place of Napoleon Bonaparte. The tour was broadcast live on a Facebook video stream on Mr. Macron’s official Facebook account, and that is how the so-called sexism encounter or flirtatious welcome was picked up and quickly spread across the internet.
President Macron is 39, and his wife is 64, and their 25-year age difference has been quite the buzz across France. Meanwhile, President Trump is 71 and Melania 47, and that wide gap in years has also been the topic of conversation in the United States, but it appears that the Macron/Trogneux union receives more wagging tongues when it comes to their ages.
The President and First Lady were in France for an official visit and to celebrate Bastille Day, the French National holiday. The overseas trip also marks the 100th anniversary of America's entry into World War I.
This is not the first time President Trump has been accused of sexist remarks and behavior. When he ran for president, he got entangled with former Fox News host Megyn Kelley during a presidential debate. She peppered him with alleged run-ins he had with women like actress Rosie O'Donnell. He called her a pig in 2007.
Trump also insulted his Republican rival Carly Fiorina during the race, suggesting she was too unattractive to run the country. He said, "Look at that face!"
Most recently, President Trump got into a Twitter row on social media, battling MSNBC talk show hosts Joe Scarborough and his new fiance Mika Brzezinski when they insulted him.
Trump tweeted back that Mika had a low IQ and was bleeding from a facelift when she and Scarborough made a visit to Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate around New Year's Eve.
