Appeal against the Country Side Posting Of Overseas Doctors

There is a claim made by the Doctors that it is not fair to send foreign graduates areas in the region for the first decade of the work that they do in Australia.

At present, the doctors who are trained out of the country need to spend their 10 years in Country areas.

An appeal has been made by the Australian Medical Association (AMA) and the Rural Doctors Association for the scrapping of this policy.

The President of the AMA stated that it is better to make them familiar with the conditions of the health industry of the nation. He also said that it should be supported so that there is the effective improve in the health System of Australia.

"Nearly 40 per cent to 50 per cent of the doctors in rural areas are actually international graduates and we are asking people who are unfamiliar with our health system and we are putting them into the most difficult location possible," he said.

He also added, “So we don't think they should be used as a workforce solution in the bush and this 10-year moratorium means we aren't coming up with better solutions."

The Rural Workforce Agency of Victoria is of a different view, and is against the appeal.
