Olive Oil Reduces the Risk of Stroke among Elders: Study

A recent research carried out by the researchers at the University of Bordeaux, France has claimed that olive oil reduces the risk of stroke in elderly people. Researchers have found that people who consume olive oil regularly are at a lower risk of getting stroke as compared to others. The new study was published in Neurology, the medical journal of the American Academy of Neurology.

The results of the study were based on the evaluation of 7,625 people aged 65 or above for five years. The findings revealed that older people who regularly use olive oil for cooking and on salads and bread are 41% less likely to suffer from stroke as compared to those who do not.

Researchers have advised the people to include olive oil in regular meals as it can also protect against health problems, such as diabetes, high-blood pressure, high-cholesterol and obesity.

The study Author, Dr. Cécilia Samieri with the University of Bordeaux, France, said that stroke is a common health problem among older people and the use of olive oil could serve as an inexpensive way of maintain heart health.
