The French President Makes A Vow to Make French Worlds first Language
The President of France, Emmanuel Macron has vowed to make French the most spoken language around the globe. The president made this statement while speaking to students in the capital city of Burkina Faso, Ouagadougou. President Macron said that he would ensure that his native language was the principal language in the African continent and perhaps the world over. The president, however, said that the move should not be viewed as a relic of the colonial power. Macron is in a state tour to the African continent and has visited countries such as Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso, and Ghana.
The French president added that the French language is not only a heritage that should be jealously protected but it has a future in the African continent and the world stage. He added that the future of the French language and culture is already paying out in. Macron said that the attractiveness and radiance of the French culture and dialect was not only a preserve for the citizens of France but for the whole world to enjoy. French is the fifth most spoken language in the world with more than 274 million people speaking it fluently.
President Macron embarked on a 3-day tour of the West African region including countries that were former colonies of France. The tour was meant to boost relations and cooperation with African nations on issues such as human rights, terrorism, and migration. He would continue to tell the Burkinabe students in Ouagadougou that human trafficking like was seen in Libya was a criminal offense and also a crime against humanity. Macron reiterated that he proposed a European-African initiative that would see to an end of the human traffickers and terrorist who were becoming a menace in the Sahel region.
Macron proposed a crackdown on the smuggler and terrorist networks that operated in the Sahel region all the way into Libya and Europe through the Mediterranean Sea. The French President would even propose the use of a military operation to end human trafficking in Libya finally. He added that France would not meddle in local affairs and politics of its former colonies. This, he said would bring to an end the history of Francafrique.
Francafrique is a term used to criticize and describe the relationship between Paris and her former colonies. Macron also said that he hailed from a generation that would not dictate the destiny of African nations. He admitted that the crimes committed by European colonizers needed to be left in the past so that Africa and Europe could forge ahead.
