France Judge Issues Arrest Warrant for Saudi Princess
France has issued an arrest warrant for the King of Saudi Arabia's daughter in an incident which occurred in September 2016.
Hassa bint Salman the daughter of Saudi King Salman is wanted as an accomplice to an alleged assault in which she asked her bodyguard to commit.
The arrest warrant was issued by a judge in Paris in December of last year but only became public recently.
The victim was a contractor hired to do some work on the princess's apartment on Avenue Foch in the exclusive 16th arrondissement. When the contractor took pictures of the space he would work on, the princess reportedly suspected that he would try to sell the photos.
She then instructed her bodyguard to beat the contractor. The victim of the alleged assault said that he was even forced to kiss the princess's feet after being tied up in the apartment for several hours. He was eventually able to leave the apartment but his tools and camera were confiscated, he said.
The princess's bodyguard was indicted on October 1, 2016, on charges of gun violence, seizure, theft and issuing death threats.
Hassa is the sister of the Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman who has become the most powerful man in Saudi Arabia.
The 32-year-old Crown Prince, who is also known by his codename "MBS," has spared no lengths in consolidating his power in the desert kingdom.
MBS was said to be the force behind the "kidnapping" of Lebanon's Prime Minister Saad al-Hariri in November 2017. While detained in Riyadh, the Saudi capital, al-Hariri was also forced to resign from his elected position in a statement said to have been written by Saudi officials.
Al-Hariri, who is also a French citizen, was finally offered exile by French President Emmanual Macron which ended his detention by the Saudi's Crown Prince.
MBS is also responsible for the detention of dozens of prominent Saudi family members and business executives in the swanky Ritz-Carlton. The unsuspecting detainees were invited as VIPs to the luxurious hotel and then held until they paid back the money they were accused of stealing.
There are more recent reports that MBS has hidden his mother from the public for the past two years so that she would not interfere with his rise to power.
Currently, there is no information on the whereabouts of Princess Hassa bint Salman. Interpol is acting upon the arrest warrant.
